Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), also known as Gage R & R, is a subject often misunderstood. The critical issue is to investigate the total measurement system, which includes fixtures, gages, and operators, and to quantify how true the measured data really is. Customers, especially automotive, are mandating first-tier suppliers to provide a number representing the "trueness" of measurement. This assessment may be accomplished through a Gage R & R study. After determining the results, the sources of variation may be examined and improved in order to minimize.
